Herbal Salve

This herbal salve recipe is easy to make and easy to use....
You pick the herbs according to what you need to heal

3 tablespoons dried or 5 tablespoons fresh herbs
3 cups water
1½ ounces coconut oil
1½ ounces almond oil
1 teaspoon benzoin tincture (available at pharmacies)
1 ounce grated beeswax, optional

Place the herbs in an empty pot. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil, then pour it over the herbs and let steep. Strain and reserve the tea.
In the saucepan, mix the coconut and almond oils together, then add the tea. Simmer until the water has completely evaporated (when the bubbling stops). Remove from heat.
Add the benzoin tincture (a preservative). If necessary, add the grated beeswax to thicken the salve, letting it melt gradually into the base. Pour the salve into half-ounce containers and let cool. Secure the lids and label.

Red clover salve

Here is a easy salve recipe used for psoriasis, eczema, skin cancer and other skin problems. It has diuretic, anti-inflamitory, and cirulation improving properties also.

2 cups olive oil or sunflower oil (olive lasts longer)
3/4 cup red clover flowers.

Mix together and place in top of double boiler. Simmer over low heat for
2 hours. Remember to replace the water in bottom pot if it gets low.
Strain out herbs. In separate pan or bowl if using microwave, melt
2 tsp. beeswax 1 tsp. cocoa butter or lanolin.
Add to the infused oil and stir until cool. If you wanted to make this antibacterial, you would add a few drops of tea tree or thyme eo when it cools. Put into jars and label and date.

Precautions: Side Effects
No serious side effects from red clover have been reported in people taking red clover for up to one year.
However, animals that graze on large amounts of red clover have become infertile.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding -Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take red clover.
Interactions and Depletions:
Red clover may interfere with the body's ability to process some drugs that are broken down by liver enzymes. For that reason, you should check with your doctor before taking red clover.
Estrogens, hormone replacement therapy, birth control pills -- Red clover may increase the effects of estrogen.
Tamoxifen -- Red clover may interfere with tamoxifen.
Anticoagulants (blood thinners) -- Red clover may enhance the effect of these drugs, increasing the risk of bleeding. The same is true of herbs and supplements that have blood-thinning effects (such as ginkgo, ginger, garlic, and vitamin E).
Alternative Names:
Beebread; Cow clover; Cow grass; Meadow clover; Purple clover; Trifolium pratense

Comfrey - Coconut Healing Salve

This comfrey salve is a mainstay of your home first aid kit. Use it on cuts, scrapes, rashes, sunburn, good for almost any skin irritations including chronic inflammatory psoriasis. Comfrey salve can also bring comfort to aching arthritic joints, and sore muscles.

3/4 cup comfrey infused oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
4 tablespoons beeswax

Following the directions for salves, heat the oil and wax together until the wax melts completely, then pour into clean, dry jars. At the point where the mixture has cooled a little, but not yet set, add 10 drops or so of an antiseptic essential oil such as lavender, thyme or tea tree if desired.
Heat herbs in olive oil over low heat for about 5 hours. Do not let the oil boil or bubble. A Crock-Pot or the lowest temperature setting on a range should be suitable for heating this mixture. (If the lowest setting is too hot, turn off the heat once it has warmed the oil...it should keep warm for at least and hour....then repeat the process twice.) After cooking, strain out the herbs while oil is still warm.  Place 1 1/4 cups of the herb oil in a pan, add beeswax and heat just enough to melt the wax. Add essential oil and stir. Finally, pour the salve into wide mouthed jars. Store at room temperature. Use for minor scrapes and cuts, to protect and promote

Warning
Do not use on deep, puncture type wounds, as it can cause the skin to heal over and seal infection inside.

Did You Know…that comfrey root helps osteoarthritis of the knee, sprained
ankles, lower back pain, and more?

I’ve used comfrey ointment for many years for healing wounds, abrasions, dry
skin. It's been used for centuries in Chinese medicine to treat wounds and
reduce arthritis pain. A Native American herb, comfrey is well known for its
abilities to heal bones and connective tissue as well. The problem is that
while perfectly safe in combination with other herbs, comfrey is not meant
to be used in large amounts internally, due to potential for liver damage.
